Safety is paramount during hurricanes. Downed power lines are a serious danger following a major storm. Stay away from any downed power line and report damage immediately to EMEPA. Generators are very useful during periods of outage following a storm but must be used carefully. Unless a member’s emergency generator has a professionally installed transfer switch, do not plug the generator into any outlet. Instead, connect appliances directly to the generator.
EMEPA encourages members to prepare a disaster supply kit prepared including a battery-powered radio, flashlights, candles, clean water for cooking and drinking and non-perishable food items. If a member depends on medical equipment, please contact your health care provider or service to make arrangements as necessary.
EMEPA crews are on “ready” standby. Equipment and materials are on hand to repair any damage to the transmission and distribution system. EMEPA crews will work until power is restored to all residents. Outages are not preventable during a major storm, and EMEPA asks that all residents be prepared.
